Abridge is an AI-powered healthcare platform that transforms patient-clinician conversations into structured clinical notes in real-time. Founded in 2018, the company uses generative AI and Linked Evidence technology to help providers trust and verify AI-generated summaries, setting industry standards for responsible AI deployment in healthcare.
You will be the senior engineering leader establishing Abridge's engineering presence in the New York office (SoHo). This is a builder's role first and a site leader's role second. You'll own business-critical product areas end-to-end, set the technical bar and culture for the office, and grow a team from a small core.
Key responsibilities:
- Build the NY engineering presence by establishing operating rhythm, quality standards, and office culture that attracts strong engineers
- Bring leadership perspective on how agentic AI changes software development—both in the product you ship and in team operations
- Drive execution velocity across the organization; set business context for your team, partner closely with product and design, and act as a multiplier for leaders and engineers
- Own a product area from ambiguity to shipped, enterprise-grade software; set technical direction, make architecture decisions, and be accountable for team output
- While not coding daily, stay hands-on enough to unblock issues and participate meaningfully in technical design discussions
The role requires five days per week in the SoHo office. Abridge operates in a fast-paced startup environment with a mission to improve healthcare delivery through AI.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5+ years managing software engineering teams, including experience as a manager of managers or most senior engineering leader in a location
- Track record of building something from zero to real scale and owning product outcomes, not just engineering process
- Hands-on technical skills: able to read and review code, debug codebases when needed, and hold your own in technical design discussions
- Clear, well-formed point of view on AI and agentic engineering with demonstrated action on those beliefs
- Skilled at hiring and mentorship; track record of helping engineers grow and hiring quickly while maintaining high bars
- Experience thriving in fast-growing startups; comfortable being hands-on in fast-moving, productive environments
- Based in New York and committed to five days per week in-office presence
- Genuine passion for Abridge's healthcare mission
Bonus qualifications:
- Site lead experience or founding senior engineering leader for new office/region
- Experience managing or working directly with AI/ML engineering teams shipping AI/ML-powered features
- Health tech or other highly regulated, enterprise-sold domain experience
- Founder or early-employee startup experience
