Hut 8 is building and operating large-scale data centers for next-generation computing workloads including AI, colocation, cloud, and Bitcoin mining. The Engineering Lead serves as the single point of technical accountability for a data center project's engineering scope, reporting to the EPC organization and partnering daily with the Program Director. This is a player-coach role: you set technical direction, make calls when disciplines conflict, and stay close enough to details to catch drift early. You will coordinate discipline engineers (mechanical, electrical, BMS/controls) and shared design resources (civil, structural, architectural, fire protection), driving resolution of cross-discipline design issues from design development through commissioning and turnover. Key responsibilities include: **Technical Ownership & Design Baseline**: Own the project's engineering scope end-to-end. Establish and hold the technical baseline against Hut 8 program standards, basis of design, and customer requirements. Approve deviations deliberately and document them. Chair the engineering coordination cadence and maintain a visible log of open technical issues, owners, and due dates. **Cross-Discipline Issue Resolution**: Drive resolution of cross-discipline conflicts including power and cooling interfaces, space proofing and routing in galleries and white space, structural provisions for equipment, controls integration boundaries, and phasing/sequencing constraints. When disciplines disagree, make the call or escalate with a clear recommendation and cost/schedule implications. **Design Review Management**: Run structured design reviews at each stage gate (30/60/90/IFC), assign reviewers, consolidate comments, and own the comment log to closure. Enforce review quality on constructability, maintainability, code compliance, and commissioning alignment. **Vendor Package & Submittal Oversight**: Oversee technical review of major vendor packages (switchgear, generators, UPS, chillers, CDUs, BMS) against specifications. Arbitrate technical exceptions and alternates; ensure equipment selections meet ratings, redundancy, and integration requirements. **Construction & Field Engineering Support**: Prioritize and triage engineering support to the field: RFIs, field changes, and design clarifications. Protect the field from slow turnaround by setting response-time expectations and staffing the right discipline against the critical path. **Commissioning & Turnover Readiness**: Ensure engineering deliverables support Level 1-5 commissioning including sequences, setpoints, test criteria, and as-built accuracy. Drive engineering closure of commissioning issues and support the CXQC team through integrated systems testing and turnover to Managed Services. **Team Leadership & Development**: Direct and develop the project's discipline engineers and project engineers. Set priorities, review work products, and grow the bench, including mentoring the Project Engineer cohort on design intent. The role is in-office at Hut 8's corporate headquarters in the Brickell area of Miami, Florida. Candidates must be willing to travel to project sites approximately 50%+ of the time, with higher travel expected during peak construction and commissioning phases. **Requirements:** - 10+ years of engineering experience on data center or mission-critical facilities, with at least 3 years leading multi-discipline engineering teams on major capital projects - Demonstrated technical fluency across electrical distribution (MV/LV, generation, UPS), mechanical/cooling systems (chilled water, air and liquid cooling), and controls integration—deep expertise in at least one, conversant in all - Owner's-side or EPC design management experience on projects of $250M+ construction value; hyperscale or colocation delivery strongly preferred - Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline; PE license preferred - Proven ability to run stage-gate design reviews and drive large comment logs to closure on schedule - Experience supporting active construction: RFI management, field changes, and constructability trade-offs under schedule pressure - Working knowledge of Level 1-5 commissioning and what engineering owes the Cx program - Decisive in ambiguity—comfortable making and owning the technical call and explaining it in business terms to non-engineers - Willing to travel regularly to project sites (expect 50% during peak construction and commissioning phases)
