Apollo.io, a $1.6B-valued SaaS leader in go-to-market solutions trusted by 500,000+ companies, is seeking an Employment Counsel to provide strategic legal guidance on employment matters across its global workforce. You will serve as a hands-on individual contributor partnering closely with the People team, People Business Partners, and business leaders. This role combines day-to-day employment counseling with strategic process development and dispute management. Key responsibilities include: • Provide practical employment law advice throughout the employee lifecycle: hiring, performance management, disciplinary actions, complaints, leaves, accommodations, workplace conduct, and separations. • Partner on sensitive employee relations matters, including investigation planning, fact-gathering, documentation, and remedial action; lead or oversee investigations as appropriate. • Guide individual and group separations, severance decisions, settlement negotiations, and organizational changes in coordination with People, Finance, and local counsel. • Draft, review, and maintain employment documents including offer letters, employment agreements, separation agreements, confidentiality and invention-assignment agreements, and related templates. Advise on compensation arrangements including commissions and bonuses. • Support a global workforce by coordinating advice across the US and international markets (direct employees, contractors, and employer-of-record arrangements). Identify when local expertise is needed and translate external advice into workable recommendations. • Build repeatable processes in partnership with Legal Operations and People Operations: develop intake workflows, approval processes, templates, playbooks, and matter tracking systems. • Assess employment claims and threatened disputes, coordinate preservation and response efforts, and manage external counsel's scope, strategy, quality, and spend. • Deliver practical training for People partners and managers; identify recurring issues and prioritize targeted improvements to policies and practices. • Collaborate with Privacy, Security, and Corporate Legal on matters at the intersection of employment law and other compliance areas. Requirements: • J.D. or equivalent legal qualification with active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar and eligibility to practice in this role. • Approximately 6+ years of relevant employment-law experience, including substantial experience counseling employers directly. • Strong knowledge of U.S. employment law, including California and multistate issues, with demonstrated ability to apply that knowledge to practical workplace decisions. • Experience advising on sensitive employee relations matters, investigations, performance management, accommodations, and separations. • Experience supporting international employment matters and coordinating with local counsel. • Ability to give clear recommendations when facts are incomplete, distinguish material risks from manageable ones, and escalate appropriately. • Strong drafting, communication, and relationship-building skills with discretion, empathy, and sound judgment. • Track record of managing competing priorities and carrying matters through to completion. • Interest in improving how work gets done through practical tools, training, and repeatable processes. Valued experience: • In-house employment counseling at a technology company or business with a distributed workforce. • Experience with employment disputes, workforce changes, contractor classification, or employer-of-record arrangements. • Experience developing employment playbooks, document workflows, or tools enabling People teams to operate more independently. • Employment counseling experience in UK, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Philippines, India, or Canada.
