Stratio is a condition monitoring and predictive maintenance company serving the transportation industry. The company monitors fleet health in real time and uses AI to predict failures before they occur, serving over 1.3 billion annual travelers.
You will join the Embedded Systems & Hardware team, working on the Databox—a device at the heart of Stratio's zero-downtime mission. The Databox collects vehicle data that powers Stratio's AI predictions. In this role, you'll build and own the firmware running on the Databox, working at the intersection of software and hardware.
Your day-to-day work centers on a remote tachograph data download project, building systems that retrieve, process, and manage tachograph data remotely.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and debug C/C++ firmware on a multi-threaded RTOS for ARM-based microcontrollers
- Translate product requirements into technical designs, collaborating with stakeholders
- Debug across hardware and software using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and automotive communication tools (J1939, J1587)
- Support hardware bring-up and design alongside the hardware team
- Conduct code reviews and participate in design discussions
- Improve development processes, tools, test infrastructure, and documentation
- Work hands-on at the bench during bring-up and debugging
This is not an application-level or purely software role. You'll work with real-time, multi-threaded firmware close to the hardware, following problems from architectural decisions through to logic analyzer debugging with the hardware team.
The role is hybrid based in Coimbra, with an expectation to work in the office approximately once per week (adjusted to needs).
Requirements:
Must have:
- BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar field
- Proven experience in embedded systems development with C/C++
- Experience debugging embedded systems with an RTOS on ARM-based microcontrollers
- Working knowledge of analogue and digital electronics
- Knowledge of unit testing and CI methodologies
- Familiarity with version control systems
- Experience translating requirements into technical solutions
- Fluency in English
Bonus points:
- Interest or experience in the automotive industry
- Experience with Zephyr RTOS
- Knowledge of ISO 26262, MISRA C, or ASPICE
- Experience with Python programming
