Lightmatter is building the world's first 3D-stacked photonics engine (Passage™) to enable extreme-scale AI and HPC data centers. The company recently raised $400M in Series D at a $4.4B valuation and is accelerating development across all departments.
As Electro-Optic Systems Architect, you will be the digital architecture owner of Passage, responsible for ensuring electrical-optical-electrical links are performant and meet customer requirements. You will partner with cross-disciplinary engineering teams—chip design, software, RTL, design verification, firmware, and test/validation—to model, analyze, and validate solutions from initial concept through high-volume production.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own digital architecture for Passage's electro-optic subsystem, working closely with architecture, chip-design, and software teams
- Architect and specify system-level digital designs integrating complex analog/mixed-signal (AMS) and photonic circuits, including stabilization circuits, line-rate DSP, FEC, CRC, and tuning/adaptation of analog front-end components
- Collaborate with RTL and design verification teams to enable block-level implementation and verification
- Work with test and validation engineers to validate hardware against simulation predictions
- Enable firmware team development for hardware bringup and validation recipes
- Author, review, and validate architectural specifications; produce customer-facing datasheets and reference designs with product and applications engineering teams
- Identify improvements and mitigation strategies for proposed architectures
This is a high-impact role where your contributions directly influence product success. You'll solve groundbreaking technical challenges in a collaborative, technically diverse environment where great ideas are prioritized.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 12+ years of experience and Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
- In-depth knowledge of power-efficient digital design flow for high-speed AMS electronics, preferably on photonic communication channels
- In-depth knowledge of digital circuit design in high-speed analog/photonic links, including device bring-up, control, and digital signal processing
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills for non-obvious technical problems
- Demonstrated strong customer communication with timely responses and consistently positive feedback
PREFERRED:
- Understanding of SerDes PCS layer, equalization, and forward error-correction schemes
- Ability and desire to collaborate across disciplines from hardware to software
