Redwood Materials, founded by JB Straubel (co-founder and former CTO of Tesla), is North America's largest lithium-ion battery recycler and has deployed the world's largest second-life battery project. The company recovers, refines, and redeploys critical minerals from end-of-life batteries and delivers power to AI data centers using proprietary energy architecture engineered in-house. Redwood is profitable and positioned to lead a market projected to grow 20–50× over the next decade.
The Electrical Engineering Associate, Energy Storage role is fully on-site at 2800 Lockheed Way, Carson City, and supports Redwood's next-generation Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) program. You will perform hands-on technical work alongside engineers, primarily focused on PCB design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating and managing electronics component symbol and footprint libraries for PCB designs using Altium CAD software
- Hand-soldering and reworking PCB components, including fine-pitch surface mount parts and connectors; cable harness assembly
- Running functional and bring-up tests on new board revisions, flashing firmware, verifying power rails, and bench-level troubleshooting of prototype and production boards down to component level
- Managing the electronics lab, including equipment and tool purchasing, organization, maintenance, cleaning, and ensuring ESD/safety compliance
