Harmattan AI is a defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems. Following a $200M Series B at $1.4B valuation, the company is expanding teams to deliver mission-critical systems to allied forces. The Launcher module is developing field-deployable drone launchers designed for autonomous deployment in demanding field environments. These products require dedicated electronics design with complex architecture in constrained spaces—PCBs integrating power conversion, energy management, control and communication interfaces, optimized for cost at volume. You will own electronics design end-to-end for the Launcher hardware product, from schematic through production ramp. This is a senior individual-contributor role on a small, autonomous team. Key responsibilities: - Design complete mixed-signal and power board schematics, from power stages to digital and communication sections - Perform PCB layout and routing with attention to signal integrity, EMC, and power-path constraints - Define and validate power architecture and thermal strategy, including battery temperature management - Ensure electronics withstand outdoor deployment conditions; define qualification plans - Select components with cost, availability, and reliability in mind; drive BOM optimization for mass production - Lead board bring-up and debug using oscilloscopes and bench equipment; write bring-up scripts as needed - Address EMC challenges and ensure electrical safety of power and battery sections - Collaborate closely with embedded software engineers on hardware/software interfaces and firmware bring-up - Work with mechanical team to ensure seamless PCB integration into enclosures (connectors, mounting, thermal, sealing, shielding) - Qualify PCB manufacturers and assembly houses; support DFM/DFA review for production; manage NPI transitions - Maintain schematics, layout files, test procedures, and hardware specifications Ideal candidate: A senior hardware engineer who has designed and shipped complex PCBs—ideally mixing digital and significant power (hundreds of watts)—into production. You are rigorous on schematics, layout, and bring-up, with strong instinct for cost and manufacturability. You design with real-world operating conditions in mind (temperature, moisture, surges) and have interest in battery thermal management. Direct experience with outdoor-deployed equipment is a plus. You are comfortable working autonomously in a small team and can bridge hardware and firmware. Requirements: - PCB schematic and layout design (Altium Designer preferred) - Power electronics design: ~300W DC/DC conversion, protection, derating, efficiency and thermal budgets - Thermal regulation: temperature sensing and control loops, battery storage temperature management, heatsinking - Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af/at/bt): combined power and data delivery, isolation, cable budgets - Mixed-signal design: power management, MCU interfaces, communication buses (SPI, I2C, UART, USB, CAN, Ethernet) - Hardware bring-up and debug: bench equipment proficiency - DFM/DFA for PCB manufacturing and assembly - Component selection and BOM management - Lightning and surge protection experience is a plus
