Harmattan AI is a defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems. Following a $200M Series B at $1.4B valuation, the company is expanding teams to deliver mission-critical systems to allied forces.
The Launcher module develops field-deployable drone launchers designed for autonomous operation in demanding field environments. The Electrical Engineer will own electronics design end-to-end, accelerating the path to production milestones.
You will design and ship complex PCBs integrating power conversion, energy management, control, and communication interfaces—optimized for cost at volume. Key responsibilities include:
- Schematic design for mixed-signal and power boards, from power stages to digital and communication sections
- PCB layout and routing with attention to signal integrity, EMC, and power-path constraints
- Power and thermal architecture definition and validation, including battery temperature management
- Environmental robustness: ensure electronics withstand outdoor deployment conditions and define qualification plans
- Component selection and BOM optimization for cost, availability, and reliability at mass production volumes
- Hardware bring-up and debug using oscilloscopes and bench equipment; write bring-up scripts as needed
- EMC and safety compliance: address EMC challenges and electrical safety of power and battery sections
- Collaboration with embedded software engineers on hardware/software interfaces and firmware bring-up
- Mechanical integration: ensure seamless PCB integration into enclosures (connectors, mounting, thermal, sealing, shielding)
- Supplier and manufacturing ramp-up: qualify PCB manufacturers and assembly houses; support DFM/DFA review
- Documentation of schematics, layout files, test procedures, and hardware specifications
The ideal candidate is a senior hardware engineer who has designed and shipped complex PCBs—ideally mixing digital and significant power (hundreds of watts)—into production. You are rigorous on schematics and layout, bring strong instinct for cost and manufacturability, and design with real-world operating conditions in mind (temperature, moisture, surges). Direct experience with outdoor-deployed equipment is a plus.
REQUIREMENTS:
- PCB schematic and layout design (Altium Designer preferred)
- Power electronics design: ~300 W DC/DC conversion, protection, derating, efficiency, and thermal budgets
- Thermal regulation: temperature sensing and control loops, battery storage temperature management, heatsinking
- Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af/at/bt): combined power and data delivery, isolation, cable budgets
- Mixed-signal design: power management, MCU interfaces, communication buses (SPI, I2C, UART, USB, CAN, Ethernet)
- Hardware bring-up and debug: bench equipment proficiency
- DFM/DFA for PCB manufacturing and assembly
- Component selection and BOM management
- Experience in lightning and surge protection is a plus
