Saronic Technologies is seeking a Forward Deployed Electrical Engineer to join their technical team building autonomous surface vessels for maritime defense. This is a hands-on, field-oriented role split between the lab, fabrication spaces, and the waterfront.
You will be responsible for bringing Saronic's technology from the lab to operational fleet deployment. Key responsibilities include designing systems for electrical integration of novel payloads onto Autonomous Service Vessels (ASVs) and maritime platforms; leading rapid prototyping efforts to support field experimentation; performing system bring-up, integration, and troubleshooting of power, networking, sensor, and compute subsystems; owning dockside and sea trials including vessel preparation, hardware installation, and system validation in operationally relevant environments; driving design-for-assembly and design-for-deployment feedback into electrical product development; collaborating with cross-functional teams (Mechanical, Software, Autonomy Engineers) to evolve system designs; interfacing with suppliers and fabrication shops for fast-turnaround custom components; and contributing to documentation and training to support scaling of deployment and manufacturing.
This role requires understanding full system topologies, balancing power budgets, thermal constraints, and signal integrity. You will work directly supporting maritime missions and iterating hardware designs in the field to ensure success.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (Master's degree a plus)
- 3+ years of experience working on integrated electrical/electromechanical systems, preferably in fielded or mission-critical environments
- Hands-on expertise in electrical integration (power systems, cabling, connectors, PCB bring-up)
- Hands-on expertise in rapid prototyping and system-level debugging
- Comfort with basic electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes) and field integration setups
- Experience with Linux-based operating systems
- Experience with serial communications (RS232, RS485) and CANbus
- Understanding of networking protocols and distributed systems (TCP/IP, UDP, message-passing frameworks)
- Willingness to work in dynamic, hands-on environments including on and near the water
- Strong sense of ownership and bias for action; thrives solving open-ended problems in real-world environments
- Preferred: experience with autonomous systems, drones, or robotic platforms; familiarity with maritime environments or naval platforms; ability to write basic software tools (Python, shell scripts) for hardware bring-up or test automation; exposure to ruggedized or IP-rated hardware design; experience in systems integration or test engineering
