Mainspring Energy manufactures fuel-flexible, low-emissions local power solutions for Fortune 500 companies, data centers, and utilities. The company has shipped hundreds of megawatts of its Linear Generator technology since 2020 and partners with global energy leaders including AEP, NextEra Energy Resources, and Schneider Electric. You will join the core Electrical Engineering organization as an Electrical Engineer focused on electronics design. This is a high-impact role with end-to-end ownership of critical electrical hardware and PCBA designs that power the Linear Generator. Unlike traditional narrow subsystem roles, you will have execution autonomy to design advanced low-voltage systems, lead complex hardware validation and technical reviews, and directly shape the power generation control architecture. Key responsibilities include: - Design low-voltage (<60V) electrical systems and PCBAs that enable core functions and expand Linear Generator capability - Own full bring-up, validation, and qualification of custom electrical hardware designs - Lead cross-functional design reviews to present concepts, align requirements, and secure approvals - Debug and troubleshoot complex hardware issues across field deployments, test labs, and production - Partner with reliability engineers to analyze hardware performance and increase system robustness - Work with the New Product Introduction (NPI) team and external suppliers to optimize designs for manufacturability and testability - Interface with high-voltage hardware teams and define requirements for cabling and embedded firmware - Learn complex design concepts and mentor peers while collaborating with a world-class engineering team The Linear Generator relies on innovative electrical power and control hardware to achieve best-in-class efficiency while meeting strict emissions requirements. You will be part of a talented team that owns hardware design from initial concept through test and manufacturing. REQUIREMENTS: - 2+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 1+ years of experience with a Master's degree, in Electrical Engineering or related field - Proven hands-on experience designing, troubleshooting, and realizing low-voltage electrical hardware (DC/DC converters, relays, e-fuses, MOSFETs) - Proficiency with PCBA schematic capture and PCB design tools (Altium strongly preferred) - Strong fundamentals in analog/mixed-signal design, including operational amplifiers, ADCs, and hardware filtering (anti-aliasing, bandpass, etc.) - Experience performing component derating analysis, worst-case tolerance stack-ups, and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) - Demonstrated ability to drive projects forward from initial requirements through production - Collaborate-first mindset with strong communication skills across diverse technical teams PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience in full hardware development life cycle of PCBAs and electrical assemblies, from requirements development to manufacturing support - Familiarity with hardware reliability and environmental validation testing (HALT, thermal chamber testing, Hipot, vibration) - Experience in startup or rapid product development environment - Familiarity with project management and documentation tools (Jira, Confluence) - Basic programming or scripting experience (Python, C, or C++) for automating lab bench tests or debugging hardware
