Formlabs is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join their team in Somerville, MA. The company develops 3D printing technology used by over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA.
In this role, you will design and build prototypes and production electronic systems, including circuit design, PCB layout, embedded firmware development, bring-up, and validation. You will own projects end-to-end as a "full-stack" engineer with a focus on shipping products rather than specializing in a single area. Your responsibilities extend beyond board-level design to include subsystems such as sensors, actuators, and optoelectronics that require tradeoffs between electrical and mechanical requirements. You will back up design decisions with data gathered through simulations and experiments.
Formlabs supports engineer growth in multiple directions—from deep technical expertise to system architecture, product technical leadership, and team management. You'll be hands-on throughout the product lifecycle, from early research through debugging field failures.
The role involves bridging analog and digital worlds, solving real-world problems, and collaborating on complex electromechanical systems where electronics, mechanical design, and software integration are critical.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience designing and debugging electronics that have gone into products
- Electrical engineering generalist background, comfortable with analog and digital design, PCB layout, validation, and debugging techniques
- Hands-on approach and interest in supporting designs throughout the product lifecycle
- Comfort working with electronics that interact with the physical world
- Bonus: familiarity with embedded software development (microcontroller firmware in C/C++, device drivers, board support packages for embedded Linux, or C++ application development)
