Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the Pulsed Electrical Distribution System (PEDS) team, reporting to the Manager of Power Electronics. You will lead and coordinate electrical design projects for SPARC's fusion power plant, interfacing with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure high-quality design releases that meet specifications, timelines, and budgets. Key responsibilities include executing installation and testing of complex high-power electrical systems; developing technical requirements for vendor electrical equipment based on simulations and analysis; developing and implementing test methods and plans to qualify new electrical designs; leading installation, test, and operations handover; and managing electrical work package releases including equipment lists, drawings, and schematics. You will apply core electrical engineering knowledge to design and improve high-power systems including switchgear, transformers, switchboards, panelboards, reactors, semiconductor devices, cooling systems, and control systems. You'll develop control narratives, concepts of operations, and commissioning procedures for newly developed electrical systems. Cross-functional collaboration is essential—you'll work with R&D, physics, construction, manufacturing, software, test, compliance, and commissioning teams. Additional responsibilities include vendor coordination, quote procurement, applying electrical safety practices and compliance standards, and supporting advanced development of in-house electrical power technologies. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, OR a master's degree with 2+ years of experience with electrical distribution systems or battery-based systems - Ability to work with technical teams from conception through implementation in fast-paced environments - Proven experience working on teams while contributing technically to engineering projects - Experience in design and implementation of power systems in the electrical power industry - Experience with Medium Voltage & Low Voltage systems (AC/DC power distribution, power conversion, energy storage solutions) - Experience with modeling, simulation, and analysis backed by validation via functional testing - Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to conduct design reviews and present results to expert and non-technical audiences - Results-driven mindset with ability to convince stakeholders of design direction changes in pursuit of high-quality product release - Familiarity with National Electric Code & IEEE standards for 3-phase power systems - Experience writing technical specifications for electrical equipment - Specialization in electrical system execution in a construction setting - Ability to lift up to 50 lbs - Ability to perform standing, typing, or sitting for extended periods - Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally - Ability to work in facilities with industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics BONUS EXPERIENCE: - Practical application of electrical engineering skills to construction, manufacturing, testing, and field installations - Energy storage (batteries, capacitors, etc.) - Problem solving, root cause analysis, and field containment actions - Hands-on prototype build, testing, and documentation - MFiles, NX (2D/3D), Teamcenter - ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, protective relay programming (acSELerator) - AutoCAD, Aveva Electrical, Bluebeam, electrical design drawings (Single Lines, Panel Schedules, Schematics) - Grounding, bonding, and lightning protection design - AC industrial power distribution design, emergency power backup systems
