Mapbox is seeking a Documentation Engineer to join its Developer Relations team. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining docs.mapbox.com as a trusted resource for Mapbox's 4+ million registered developers. You'll own routine documentation updates: correcting errors, clarifying language, updating code samples, and syncing content with product changes. You'll triage user feedback on documentation, working cross-functionally to resolve issues quickly. You'll manage the full git/GitHub workflow for documentation contributions, including branching, pull requests, and reviews. The documentation site is built with markdown/MDX and React.js, requiring real coding ability. You'll work directly with Mapbox products (web, mobile, and embedded SDKs) to deeply understand what you're documenting rather than editing from a distance. You'll partner with product teams to support new feature launches with clear, accurate documentation. You'll also help prototype lightweight tooling and workflows to streamline documentation updates and support broader Developer Relations initiatives. Mapbox is looking for a developer first who also writes well—not a technical writer learning to code, and not a senior engineer seeking a pure engineering role. You should be comfortable with git/GitHub, markdown/MDX, and React.js. You write clearly, enjoy explaining technical concepts, and are curious enough to dig into Mapbox's multi-platform ecosystem. You can manage multiple small projects, prioritize independently, and see work through to publication with minimal oversight. Prior Mapbox or location technology experience is a plus but not required; willingness to learn deeply matters most. The role offers hybrid/remote flexibility, comprehensive healthcare, generous parental leave, fertility support, mental health resources, flexible PTO, and retirement matching.
