IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) is the world's leading quantum platform and merchant supplier, delivering integrated quantum solutions across computing, networking, sensing, and security. ID Quantique (IDQ), part of IonQ, is a global leader in quantum-safe communications, protecting governments, telecommunications infrastructures, and banking & financial institutions from harvest-now-decrypt-later threats through terrestrial and space-based quantum-safe networks in live operation globally.
This role offers rare technical leadership of IonQ's post-quantum cryptography (PQC) hardware acceleration programme, a strategic security product line targeting hardware security modules (HSM) and network-appliance applications. As the most senior technical authority, you will own end-to-end architecture from cryptographic algorithm and standards strategy through FPGA-based product architecture with a clear path to ASIC, setting technical direction across cryptography, hardware, software, and security disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define system and microarchitecture of a multi-algorithm PQC accelerator implementing ML-KEM, ML-DSA, and SLH-DSA/LMS, including hardware/firmware partitioning, throughput and lane sizing derived from customer traffic models, and stable core-interface specifications
- Own algorithm and standards strategy (NIST FIPS 203/204/205, CNSA 2.0, FIPS 140-3), drive make/buy and IP-licensing decisions, and shape security and certification architecture with side-channel and compliance specialists
- Set technical roadmap, arbitrate cross-domain design decisions, mentor senior engineers across domains, and represent the programme externally with customers, standards bodies, certification laboratories, and executives
- Own end-to-end architecture and technical roadmap from concept to shipping product
- Act as programme's most senior technical authority, setting direction across disciplines and representing technology with customers, standards bodies, and executives
Requirements:
- Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Cryptography, or related field
- 15+ years architecting complex digital security hardware with deep, hands-on exposure to cryptographic implementation and genuine post-quantum depth
- Recognised authority evidenced by shipped market-defining security products, standards contributions, publications, or patents
- Multiple instances of taking accelerators, secure elements, or HSM-class systems from specification to production
- Credible discussing lattice-based cryptography with cryptographers, timing closure with FPGA designers, and certification strategy with FIPS laboratories
- Ability to defend architecture in front of demanding customers or executive committees
- Strong build/buy/partner decision-making under uncertainty
- Fluency in English required; French or German advantageous
Preferred Qualifications:
- Thrive on ambiguity and ownership, turning strategic mandates into architecture, plans, and working products
- Lead through technical authority and clarity rather than hierarchy
- Uncompromising standards on quality and security
- Motivated by building products defining quantum-safe infrastructure for the next decade
