ID.me is a digital identity platform serving 152+ million users across 20 federal agencies, 45 state government agencies, and 70+ healthcare organizations. The company provides NIST 800-63-3 IAL2/AAL2 certified identity verification and authentication services.
The Director of Government Affairs, SLED reports to the VP, Head of Government Affairs and leads ID.me's public policy and advocacy strategy focused on the State, Local, and Education (SLED) market. This role is central to the company's revenue function in the public sector.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing comprehensive state government affairs strategies across key states and political lines to support revenue objectives
- Representing ID.me before state legislative bodies, executive branch agencies, and regulatory authorities through direct lobbying and relationship management
- Establishing operational plans for the state government affairs function, aligned with broader Government Affairs strategy and public sector go-to-market goals
- Managing external state lobbying consultants to ensure alignment with company policy priorities, revenue goals, and compliance standards
- Monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on state-level legislation, regulations, and political trends affecting digital identity, data privacy, and fraud prevention
- Translating complex policy developments into actionable business intelligence and strategic recommendations for senior leadership, product, and SLED sales teams
- Developing position papers, legislative testimony, and written materials articulating the company's policy stance
- Building and maintaining relationships with state government officials, trade associations (NASCIO, NCSL, NGA, etc.), industry coalitions, and key influencers
- Collaborating with Government Affairs and SLED sales teams to manage industry coalitions and amplify advocacy efforts
- Managing ID.me's participation in state-level trade associations and overseeing political engagement activities
- Ensuring compliance with all state lobbying, ethics, and disclosure requirements
The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of state policy processes, strong political instincts, and the ability to operate independently in a dynamic policy environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 5–7 years of experience in state government affairs, public policy, legislative service, or related field
- Demonstrated expertise in state legislative and regulatory processes
- Proven success advancing policy priorities at the state level
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience briefing senior leadership
- Excellent relationship-building and coalition-management skills across political lines
- Ability to manage multiple states, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience in digital government, identity, cybersecurity, or public-sector technology policy is a plus
