Salary: USD 270,000 - 335,000 / annual
Brex is an intelligent finance platform serving tens of thousands of companies globally with corporate cards, banking, spend management, bill pay, and travel software. The company recently became a wholly owned subsidiary of Capital One.
Reporting to the General Counsel, you will lead Brex's Regulatory Affairs function, managing the company's relationships and interactions with federal and state regulators including the OCC, Federal Reserve, FINRA, and state licensing agencies. This role combines regulatory expertise with strong program management discipline.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing productive relationships between Brex business functions and federal/state regulatory and supervisory staff
- Leading preparation and execution of regulatory exams and supervisory engagements, including logistics, fulfillment of information requests, and issue resolution
- Building and running program management infrastructure for regulatory commitments: intake, tracking, ownership, milestones, evidence, and closure
- Identifying risk areas and advising on corrective actions with monitoring for timely mitigation
- Providing thought leadership and strategic advisory support to senior management and the board on regulatory environment and supervisory matters
- Synthesizing trends across external regulatory landscape and individual engagements to drive internal awareness
- Partnering with Capital One Regulatory Affairs, Legal, and Risk teams on integration-related regulatory workstreams
- Developing scalable processes, playbooks, and reporting that give leadership clear visibility into regulatory posture
You will ensure Brex proactively responds to a changing regulatory environment and delivers on commitments to regulators accurately and on time. This role requires strong program management as much as regulatory expertise, with the ability to coordinate responses across Legal, Compliance, Risk, and business teams.
The role is based in the New York City office with a hybrid arrangement requiring a minimum of three coordinated days in-office per week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday), plus up to four weeks per year of fully remote work.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state
- 8+ years of experience in banking, financial services, risk management, audit, consulting, or regulatory agencies (or combination)
- 5+ years of direct experience working with banking regulators (OCC, Federal Reserve, FDIC, state agencies) and regulatory policy, including exam management and supervisory engagement
- Significant experience supporting integrated projects/programs with senior leaders and external stakeholders as customers, with demonstrated PMO discipline (structured tracking, clear ownership, reliable follow-through)
- Working knowledge of commercial financial products (cards, payments, deposits, lending) and associated regulatory frameworks and risk management practices
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills with ability to build consensus across stakeholders
- Ability to lead with empathy when working with internal stakeholders and government agencies
- Comfort in dynamic, fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Willingness to be a team player and pitch in on other products and topics
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience at fintech or technology-forward financial institution under bank or broker-dealer supervision (OCC, Federal Reserve, FINRA, SEC)
- Experience navigating regulatory dimensions of M&A integration between fintech and regulated bank
- Familiarity with three lines of defense frameworks and enterprise risk management practices
