Flow Engineering is an AI-native requirements platform enabling hardware teams to collaborate with AI agents to design, validate, and evolve complex systems. This is Flow's first dedicated engineering management hire, and you will lead a team building the core platform while remaining hands-on with coding.
You will report to the head of engineering and work closely with product, design, and forward-deployed engineers. Key responsibilities include:
- Manage and grow an engineering team, owning onboarding, feedback, and career development
- Own product execution end-to-end, from customer scoping through ship, measure, and iterate cycles
- Maintain technical depth: review code, make architecture decisions, and contribute meaningful work when projects need it
- Establish engineering best practices and standards
- Work directly with customers—systems and requirements engineers at hardware companies with high standards
- Partner with recruiting to build out the team
- Help set product direction on AI integration, working with engineers building agentic workflows and LLM-powered features
The role sits at the intersection of engineering leadership, hands-on technical work, and customer collaboration. You'll operate in a high-ownership, fast-paced environment where experimentation and iteration are the norm.
Tech stack: TypeScript/Node.js and Python for backend and AI services; modern LLM APIs and orchestration libraries for agentic workflows; Postgres and managed cloud services.
Requirements:
- 8+ years developing production software, including designing, testing, and operating services at scale in cloud environments
- 2+ years managing engineers, ideally at an early-stage company or in environments with minimal existing process scaffolding
- Track record shipping software that enterprise customers depend on, with clear understanding of how that shapes your build approach
- Still hands-on with coding
- Direct communicator able to give difficult feedback
- Comfortable in high-ownership, fast-paced environments where experiments and iteration are the norm
Nice to have:
- Background in aerospace, defense, automotive, or other regulated hardware domains
- Experience with requirements, ALM, PLM, or systems engineering tooling
- Experience managing teams building LLM-powered or agentic features in production
