Salary: USD 250,000 - 290,000 / annual
Via is transforming public transportation systems into smart, data-driven digital networks. As Director of AI Engineering, Internal Products, you will lead an engineering team building high-impact internal products using AI-native development practices and pioneering a platform that enables employees across the company to create software with AI agents ("nano engineers").
You will own the full lifecycle of internal products spanning Finance, HR, Operations, Sales, and Marketing systems, as well as tools for field teams to coordinate work, surface operational insights, resolve exceptions, and make real-time decisions. You'll work directly with business stakeholders to understand their needs and deliver measurable impact.
A core part of this role is rethinking software development in the age of AI—leveraging coding agents, AI-assisted development, automated testing, and new engineering workflows to accelerate the journey from problem identification to solution delivery. You'll lead development of Via's AI-powered internal development platform, building the integrations, permissions, infrastructure, testing, deployment, and governance needed to make employee-created software reliable and production-ready.
You will recruit, develop, and lead exceptional engineers; define architecture, engineering standards, and operating model; and build a culture that scales impact. You'll partner with company leadership to identify the highest-impact opportunities for software and AI, and challenge conventional assumptions about what to build versus buy.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Exceptional engineering leader with strong technical foundation and proven experience building and shipping production software
- Experience leading engineers, making sound architectural decisions, and delivering systems people depend on
- AI-native builder who actively explores and uses modern AI coding tools and agents; excited to rethink how engineering teams operate
- Pragmatic systems thinker with deep understanding of security, permissions, integrations, observability, testing, and maintainability
