Hatch is a sleep wellness company helping over 5 million people build healthier sleep habits through mobile apps and connected devices. You will lead mobile engineering across Hatch's entire product portfolio, managing four teams (Adult, Kids, Foundations, and Growth) and their engineering managers. Your core responsibilities include setting technical direction and architecture governance across platforms, fostering a product-focused engineering culture, ensuring proper resourcing and cross-team coordination, and driving delivery across iOS and Android.
In your first month, you'll establish relationships with engineering managers, own the weekly Mobile Strategy meeting, get oriented across all four teams, understand current AI strategy opportunities, and build relationships with Product and Design partners to instill a product engineering mindset.
Within three months, you'll own resourcing, escalation, and overall direction for mobile delivery; take accountability for cross-platform strategy; oversee software quality in partnership with QA; shape architecture governance and the architectural review process; own hiring pipeline direction; bring mobile capacity into roadmap planning; and begin setting direction for AI adoption and tooling efficiency.
After six months, you'll lead architecture governance end-to-end, set Mobile Health direction and strategy, define AI adoption and tooling efficiency approaches, own staff development and promotion decisions, champion team culture and project management capability, stay current with select mobile IC work as capacity allows, and establish a robust cross-functional operating model with Product, Design, Analytics, and other stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Substantial experience leading mobile engineering organizations, including managing engineering managers
- Track record of setting technical direction and architecture governance across multiple concurrent product lines or teams
- Comfort operating through delegation—setting direction and holding accountability without being hands-on in every workstream
- Strong cross-functional communication skills, including experience representing engineering to Product and Design partners and executive stakeholders
- Experience building hiring pipelines and developing engineering leads
- Builder's mindset: comfortable with ambiguity and competing priorities across a broad remit
- Product engineering mindset: expectation that engineers play an active role from ideation through implementation
- Collaborative spirit and clear communication skills for explaining complex cross-team tradeoffs
