We are seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer to own the reliability, scalability, and security of our AWS infrastructure. This role balances two critical tracks: maintaining and operating the current production platform while partnering with our Staff Software Architect and Staff Data Architect to design and build infrastructure for our next-generation platform.
You will set the technical bar for how we build, deploy, and operate infrastructure, and serve as a key partner to engineering as we scale. This is a systems-thinking role where you automate everything that shouldn't be manual and move fast without compromising platform trust.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available AWS infrastructure
- Balance ownership of existing production systems with building new infrastructure for the next platform
- Partner with Staff-level architects to design the infrastructure foundation for the new platform while ensuring a clean migration path from the current system
- Own and evolve CI/CD pipeline infrastructure and tooling
- Drive infrastructure-as-code practices across the organization using Terraform or CloudFormation
- Manage and optimize core AWS services (EC2, VPC, ECS/EKS, RDS, S3, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch)
- Build and improve observability, monitoring, and alerting to catch issues before they become incidents
- Lead incident response and root cause analysis for production systems
- Drive cost optimization and capacity planning across the cloud footprint
- Embed security best practices into every stage of the deployment pipeline
- Mentor engineers on DevOps and cloud infrastructure best practices
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or cloud infrastructure engineering, with meaningful time in a staff or technical leadership capacity
- Deep, hands-on expertise in AWS, including EC2, VPC, ECS/EKS, RDS, S3, Lambda, IAM, and CloudWatch
- Strong experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
- Proven track record building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar)
- Solid experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, or similar)
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus/Grafana, or similar)
- Working knowledge of networking, security groups, and AWS security best practices
- Experience supporting SOC 2 or similar compliance frameworks
- Comfort operating in a dual-track environment: maintaining live production while architecting its replacement
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Strong bias for action and mindset of continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional or AWS Certified Solutions Architect
- Experience with multi-country compliance requirements (data residency, privacy regulations, cross-border data handling)
- Experience supporting AI/ML workloads or MLOps pipelines on AWS
- Background in high-growth SaaS environments or post-acquisition infrastructure consolidation
