Salary: CAD 95,000 - 120,000 / annual
AppDirect is a subscription platform that enables organizations worldwide to sell any product as a service across any channel and device. FirstBase, an AppDirect subsidiary, helps companies equip their employees with computers, furniture, and team-building items while giving workers choice based on their unique needs.
You will join the FirstBase engineering team to develop and deploy the FirstBase platform, which handles provisioning, tracking, and management of IT hardware from employee onboarding through equipment return. Your software will be used daily by warehouse, procurement, and customer operations teams, as well as external customers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Implement and maintain features across FirstBase applications including product catalog, ordering, order fulfillment, and customer service
- Develop and deploy REST and GraphQL APIs in Java (Spring), with guidance from senior engineers on design and approach
- Work with PostgreSQL and messaging systems (Kafka, SQS/SNS) as part of the platform's technical stack
- Contribute to technical design of features and user stories, explaining technical tradeoffs to colleagues
- Ensure quality through appropriate testing (unit, integration, end-to-end), code reviews, production monitoring, and post-deployment issue tracking
- Collaborate closely with FirstBase operational teams (warehouse, procurement, order fulfillment) to translate workflows and constraints into functional production software
- Participate actively in team deliveries and feedback exchanges
- Use AI-assisted development tools for scoped programming tasks with review; you remain responsible for design intent, test strategy, and code quality

REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 2 years of professional software development experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Proficiency in Java (Spring framework)
- Experience with REST and GraphQL API development
- Experience with PostgreSQL
- Familiarity with messaging systems (Kafka, SQS/SNS)
- Strong English language skills for cross-team collaboration
