Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities through advanced technology. The Discovery team tackles the hardest, unproven concepts across space, missiles, air, sensors, autonomy, and cyber—taking them from idea through analysis, prototype, and test to validated solutions. As Deputy Chief Engineer in Discovery, you lead technical work on multiple cutting-edge concepts simultaneously, most of which have never been proven before. You are the technical authority for the concepts you own: you set the approach, review work, and decide which concepts continue based on evidence. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you own concepts from first idea through analysis, prototype, and test, driving them to validated answers. Key responsibilities include: - Own new concepts from first idea through analysis, prototype, and test, driving them to validated answers - Learn new domains rapidly enough to do real work: read references, build models, validate against known results, then extend - Build or adapt models, simulations, and test setups as needed, using existing tools where appropriate and building custom solutions where necessary - Pressure-test your own and others' work: hunt failure modes, surface hidden assumptions, stress trade studies before decisions lock in - Leverage AI tools as a force multiplier for research, code, and analysis, with judgment about when output requires validation - Collaborate shoulder-to-shoulder with Hardware, Software, GNC, and other teams, translating results into design decisions - Communicate results to engineers, leadership, and customers with strong visual presentation of complex data You are hired for a record of building things across different areas and reaching solutions, not for a particular skill set. You apply rigorous first-principles thinking to validate good concepts and kill bad ones early, applying this rigor to your own work first. REQUIREMENTS: - Currently possesses and is able to maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance - Demonstrated experience working in more than one technical area - Proven track record of designing, building, testing, or fielding something real in any field - Proficiency in at least one physics-math scripting environment (Python with numpy/scipy, MATLAB/Simulink, Julia, or similar) - Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - 12+ years in a relevant science/engineering field - Math, physics, or engineering degree or equivalent - Proficiency with AI tools (coding assistants, agents, model-driven research) in day-to-day engineering work, with judgment about when to trust their output - Experience in several of: space systems, missiles and missile defense, air vehicles, GNC, sensors and sensor fusion, radar, EW, acoustics, autonomy, or similar (breadth across these counts more than depth in any one) - Familiarity with domain analysis tools as relevant (STK/Astrogator, AFSIM, HFSS, Fluent, or similar)
