Valinor is a defense and government tech company founded in 2024, backed by General Catalyst and Founders Fund, focused on solving unmet needs in national security and stability. The company operates with a unique model of centralized go-to-market and decentralized engineering.
Valinor Condor is seeking a Deployment Engineer to embed with customers and integration partners as the technical link between field operations and the R&D team. This is a software-focused generalist role that also touches hardware, product, and drone operations, designed for someone who enjoys range and direct customer contact.
You will deploy on-site with customers and integration partners for multi-week engagements to install, configure, and bring Condor systems into live operations. You'll support operational and test flights end-to-end, including pre-flight testing, briefings with contingency plans, and post-flight debriefs with customer and Condor teams. You'll lead customer training to build operator confidence on the system and debug live issues across hardware, firmware, and software in real-time, often on the spot.
You will write, test, and deploy code and configuration fixes in the field, then upstream that work into the core product. You'll serve as the main technical liaison between customers and R&D, translating field observations into reproducible bug reports, requirements, and feature specifications. Working with R&D at the NY or NC base, you'll validate fixes and features in the field before wide release. You'll also create runbooks, knowledge base articles, and training materials to scale solutions beyond individual sites.
The role is hybrid with a home base at either the New York or North Carolina site and involves upwards of 75% travel, including multi-week on-site customer deployments. You must be willing to relocate to or be based near one of these sites and work hybrid when not traveling.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or closely related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 2 to 6 years of experience in software engineering, robotics, field engineering, or technical support of complex hardware systems
- Real embedded software experience with proficiency in C++ and Python
- Strong knowledge of Linux, serial protocols (UART, I2C), and networking
- Proven track record troubleshooting systems across hardware, firmware, and software
- Experience building frontend software and flight control logic
- Ability to fly and debug drones, or capacity to ramp quickly, including obtaining an FAA Part 107 license
- Clear communication skills with both engineers and non-technical users
- Calm, decisive judgment when customer operations are critical
- Willingness to travel upwards of 50%, including multi-week customer deployments
- U.S. Person status required (ITAR/EAR compliance)
Preferred qualifications: forward-deployed or field application engineering experience, flight control and navigation work, autonomy background, startup experience, or background at a hardware-product company (robotics, drones, automotive).
