You will manage CDC replication from production MySQL, design and maintain BigQuery pipelines and dbt models, manage Terraform-based infrastructure, and build Looker analytics. The role spans data ingestion, transformation, modeling, orchestration, and reporting—powering analytics for thousands of customer tenants and internal metrics for Operations and Finance teams. Key responsibilities include: **Data Platform Enablement:** Build and evolve foundations that enable safe, self-serve dbt development. Establish standards for testing, documentation, and code review. Improve developer experience through CI/CD automation and repeatable deployment patterns. Manage infrastructure as code with Terraform. **Ingestion & CDC:** Improve and troubleshoot CDC replication from MySQL to BigQuery using Datastream. Build tooling for backfills, drift detection, and reconciliation. Contribute to infrastructure decisions on data ingestion and platform evolution. **Trusted Metrics & Analytics:** Partner with Analytics and Finance to define and deliver trusted metrics and dashboards in Looker. Build analytics-ready datasets supporting self-serve reporting and experimentation. Support customer-facing, multi-tenant reporting with focus on correctness, tenant isolation, and query performance. **Data Modeling & Transformation:** Develop and optimize BigQuery models for analytics and product use cases. Implement ELT best practices in dbt, including testing, documentation, and versioning. **Pipelines, Reliability & Cost:** Design and maintain scalable data pipelines using Python, dbt, and containerized jobs on GKE. Ensure data quality, reliability, and observability for critical datasets. Optimize performance and cost across BigQuery and pipelines. **Cross-Functional Delivery:** Integrate data workflows with backend services and APIs. Work with Product and Engineering to translate business needs into data solutions. Tech stack: GCP (Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Datastream, GKE), dbt, Terraform, Python, SQL, Looker/LookML, Kubernetes (Argo Workflows). **Requirements:** - 5+ years of software engineering experience with deep data platform expertise - Strong Python programming skills - Strong SQL skills and analytical data modeling experience - Hands-on production experience with BigQuery (or similar cloud data warehouse) - Production experience with dbt (dbt Labs), including building models - Experience building or improving data workflow infrastructure (reliability, observability, CI/CD, permissions, environments, deployment patterns) - Infrastructure as code experience, preferably Terraform - Experience with a major cloud platform (GCP preferred) - Strong software engineering fundamentals (testing, version control, code reviews) **Preferred Qualifications:** - GCP services experience (Datastream, Cloud Storage, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub) - Change data capture experience (GCP Datastream or MySQL binlog/GTID replication) - Kubernetes-based orchestration experience (Argo Workflows or similar) - Looker experience (LookML, semantic modeling, dashboards) - Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or Go - Experience collaborating with Product on requirements gathering and translating business needs into data solutions
