Fuse Energy is a venture-backed energy startup ($200M+ raised from Balderton, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, and others) building an integrated energy company combining solar, batteries, grid infrastructure, AI, and distributed energy systems. The company sells directly to consumers to reduce costs and improve affordability.
You will design the mechanical and electrical backbone of next-generation AI data centres, focusing on high-density GPU infrastructure. This is a hands-on role where you own detailed design from Basis of Design through commissioning and handover. You'll develop reference and modular designs enabling rapid, repeatable deployment across UK and international markets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead detailed design of data centre projects (mechanical or electrical depending on background), including layouts, schematics, calculations, schedules and construction drawings
- Develop Basis of Design and set design standards, adapting to local codes, utility requirements, site conditions and customer specifications across markets
- Challenge conventional approaches and develop innovative solutions for high-density GPU infrastructure that shorten time to compute
- Build reference designs, modular designs and engineering guides for rapid, repeatable deployment
- Manage design changes, tracking decisions, open issues and impacts to resolution
- Support site works, commissioning and handover as needed
The team values hands-on builders over bureaucracy, and you'll see your work energised on site, not just on paper.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in mechanical or electrical design in data centre or critical facilities environments, with working knowledge of relevant systems (cooling, chillers, PUE/WUE for mechanical; MV/LV distribution, UPS, switchgear, generators, earthing for electrical)
- Experience across data centre design and construction stages, with understanding of resilience and Tier levels
- Proven ability to produce detailed design including calculations, schematics, single-line diagrams and construction drawings; AutoCAD/Revit, BIM and energy modelling or CFD experience desirable
- Familiarity with on-site construction, installation or commissioning work desirable
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience); chartered status a plus
