Salary: USD 240,000 - 325,000 / annual
Anthropic, a public benefit corporation building safe and beneficial AI systems, is seeking a Finance & Strategy partner to lead financial planning and reporting for its public benefit and policy work. This is a build role where you will shape budgets, funding structures, and reporting frameworks for grants, philanthropy, direct programs, and policy engagement globally.
You will serve as the primary finance partner to Public Benefit and Global Affairs leaders, working across program teams and partner functions (Legal, Tax, Corp Development, Accounting) on all financial aspects of their work. Key responsibilities include:
- Lead annual planning, in-year forecasting, and multi-year planning across the giving and policy portfolio, translating strategy into clear priorities and resource-allocation decisions
- Design and run stage-gated funding with tranche releases, graduation criteria, and performance tracking
- Lead financial planning of large strategic commitments such as grants, loans, foundation funding, and in-kind contributions, including accounting treatment and implementation
- Bring funding recommendations and tradeoffs to executive leadership
- Work with program leaders to define outcome measurement frameworks where revenue is not the primary metric
- Set up spend categorization, reporting, project codes, workflows, and external reporting; build processes and tools that scale with program growth
The role requires pairing rigorous corporate FP&A expertise with deep understanding of how money moves in philanthropy and policy—foundations, grantmaking, funding vehicles, and associated regulatory requirements. You will be expected to bring informed perspectives, push back with data, and help leaders navigate tradeoffs in a portfolio where impact is harder to measure than revenue.
Anthropic is headquartered in San Francisco and currently expects all staff to be in office at least 25% of the time, though some roles may require more.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
- Experience in FP&A or strategic finance, ideally at a high-growth company or foundation, with meaningful time supporting philanthropy, social impact, or policy work
- Experience in grants, philanthropy, or impact-investing finance
- Advanced financial modeling skills in spreadsheets, with experience building budgets, forecasts, and multi-year plans from the ground up
- Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining complex financial concepts to program leaders, policy staff, external partners, and executives
- Ability to push back constructively with data and clear reasoning
- Comfort with ambiguity and bias toward action, including building processes while work is still being defined
- Commitment to Anthropic's mission to build safe, beneficial AI systems
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in a field relevant to the role
Preferred:
- 10+ years of experience in FP&A or strategic finance
- Experience building stage-gated or milestone-based funding frameworks
- Fluency in ERP, procurement, or finance systems
