Datadog is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the evolution of its Software Development Kits (SDKs) platform, which powers Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and other observability products across 9 supported languages. This is a technically demanding and highly collaborative role at the intersection of platform engineering and team leadership.
You will lead, grow, and develop a team of 4–8 library engineers, coaching and empowering senior individual contributors to own outcomes. You'll own team delivery, productivity, planning, and milestones while staying technically close to the work—applying strong technical judgment, contributing code where it matters most, and maintaining high standards for quality and architecture.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and developing a high-performing engineering team focused on shipping quality software
- Owning team delivery, productivity planning, and milestone reviews
- Collaborating with Product teams to reshape and grow platform capabilities and define industry-leading, open-source, zero-touch APM instrumentation
- Staying technically engaged: setting quality standards, contributing code, and maintaining architectural excellence
- Building strong relationships and driving alignment across language teams, product, and backend organizations
- Shaping team identity and culture
You'll work on rethinking the SDKs' architecture, APIs, data models, and protocols to meet Datadog's current needs and scale, all while building in the open. The role requires the ability to pivot from high-level product narratives to highly technical implementation details.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven track record as an experienced Engineering Manager with a history of shipping products
- Strong, empathetic leadership with the ability to build and lead high-performing teams delivering high-quality software
- Significant programming experience in one or more of: Go, C, Rust
- Ability to pivot between high-level product narratives and highly technical implementation details
- Bonus skills: systems programming experience, observability tooling experience, experience shipping client-side software, Go runtime expertise
