Fluidstack is building civilization-scale compute infrastructure for AI, acquiring power, designing and operating data centers at gigawatt scale. The Facility Controls team owns the control systems behind these data centers, including real-time load control, MEP and behind-the-meter integration, automated commissioning, and autonomous deployment. In this role, you will own the control and data contract between Fluidstack's facility energy controller and third-party power plant controllers. You will define the objects, fields, units, update rates, and staleness behavior that cross system boundaries. You will define sequences of operation for normal operation, generation shortfall, source transitions, blackstart and emergency shed scenarios, along with degradation behavior for each. You will specify point maps, interlocks, and constraint classes that vendors build against, then hold them accountable through factory and site acceptance testing. You will translate between electrical and software domains: converting electrical and generation constraints into software requirements, and translating software and data constraints into terms that plant vendors and engineers of record can accept. You will prove the interface in simulation before energization, validating every constraint class and mode transition, then carry that work into automated commissioning. The role requires deep fluency in both controls and software worlds. You will sit between electrical engineers and software teams, taking control requirements and turning them into buildable software, while pushing back on software designs that won't survive field conditions. You will use data and numbers to justify decisions rather than opinions. Fluidstack operates with full autonomy, insane urgency, first-principles reasoning, and a focus on building things that matter. You will own scope end-to-end without permission required. REQUIREMENTS: - Hands-on experience with data-movement protocols (MQTT, OPC UA, REST APIs) and ability to justify protocol selection for specific use cases - Proficiency writing and reading code in at least one language (Python or Go preferred) to prototype integrations, test point maps against live devices, and review software team deliverables - Ability to read one-line diagrams and panel schedules and understand protection, breaker behavior, and source behavior under fault conditions - Demonstrated experience designing data contracts between systems (objects, fields, units, update rates, stale-value handling) - Experience writing control narratives for systems where multiple controllers must agree, with ownership of disagreement scenarios - Fluency in both controls and software domains; proven ability to translate between electrical engineers and software teams - Track record of pushing back on vendor scope or company assumptions with data-driven arguments - Bonus: Microgrid and behind-the-meter control (grid-forming BESS, PV plant controllers, turbine and genset dispatch); utility and industrial protocols (DNP3, IEC 61850 GOOSE, IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus TCP); schema-driven contracts (OpenAPI, JSON Schema); automated Level 4 and Level 5 commissioning
