Wayve is building an end-to-end AI platform for autonomous driving that enables vehicles to learn directly from real-world experience. The company is pioneering a mapless, hardware-agnostic approach that integrates with global OEM partners to deliver advanced levels of automation from L2+ through L4.
The Robotics team bridges the gap from Wayve's AI model to vehicle platforms, providing high-quality data for driving decisions while abstracting away platform-specific aspects. This role sits at the intersection of research and production, combining strong theoretical foundations with solid engineering practice.
In this role, you will develop and improve vehicle trajectory and motion controllers that translate Wayve AI Driver outputs into safe, smooth, and robust vehicle motion across different platforms and applications (both ADAS and AV). Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Develop, integrate, tune, and validate control, trajectory-generation, and action-processing algorithms across different vehicle platforms, operating modes, and challenging driving conditions
- Maintain and evolve the controls software architecture connecting AI Driver outputs to real-time vehicle actuation and feedback
- Implement and maintain production-quality, latency-sensitive control software in C++ for deployment to prototype, reference, and production vehicles
- Use simulation, closed-loop evaluation, and on-road testing to characterize controller behavior, diagnose performance issues, and validate improvements
- Work cross-functionally to define controller interfaces, integrate with adjacent systems, and enable new vehicle platforms and product features
You'll tackle cutting-edge challenges in developing principled controls approaches, implementing real-time systems, testing in complex scenarios, and refining evaluation pipelines. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on the autonomous vehicle industry while growing alongside a focused team of experts at the forefront of AV technology.
Wayve operates a hybrid working model with main hubs in London, Sunnyvale, Yokohama, Herzliya, Vancouver, and Leonberg. The company offers competitive salaries benchmarked against the market, meaningful equity, relocation support and visa sponsorship where applicable, learning and development budgets, and comprehensive benefits including health insurance, dental, enhanced parental leave, retirement/pension, access to therapists, and wellbeing partnerships.
REQUIREMENTS:
Strong fundamentals in control theory with depth in one or more of: optimization, model-predictive control, numerical methods, or dynamical systems. Practical experience developing, tuning, and validating control or motion systems on real-world physical systems. Strong software engineering skills with experience building reliable production-quality systems in C++. Experience with latency-sensitive or real-time software. Ability to reason about and debug system-level behavior in complex robotic systems across software and hardware. Applied experience with model predictive control, trajectory optimization, and motion planning. Direct experience with mobile robotics or autonomous vehicle systems. Experience in the automotive industry, including ADAS or vehicle controls. Experience with safety-critical systems, validation, and relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 26262). Applied machine learning experience or experience developing systems that integrate with ML components. The posting notes that not meeting every requirement is acceptable if you are passionate about autonomy and keen to learn.
