You will serve as Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) for Taptap Send's Malaysia operations, based in Kuala Lumpur. This is a foundational role establishing compliance infrastructure for the company's entry into the Malaysian market.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the licensing process with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), including preparation of application materials, regulatory liaison, and coordination with external counsel
- Building and implementing local compliance operations and frameworks aligned with Taptap Send Group standards
- Ensuring full compliance with Malaysian laws and regulations, including BNM policy documents and guidelines
- Managing regulatory reporting to BNM with timely, accurate submissions and proactive communication of material changes
- Developing, maintaining, and updating policies and procedures for Malaysian operations
- Conducting compliance testing, monitoring, and remediation of identified issues
- Preparing internal compliance reports for senior management and the board
- Evaluating and submitting suspicious transaction reports to BNM's Financial Intelligence and Enforcement Department
- Overseeing customer due diligence (CDD), know-your-customer (KYC), and enhanced due diligence (EDD) for customers, partners, products, and distribution channels
- Managing sanctions screening, targeted financial sanctions, and counter-proliferation financing compliance
- Collaborating with Group Compliance and internal audit teams to strengthen controls and maintain global consistency
- Serving as principal point of contact for AML/CFT/CPF matters and maintaining relationships with BNM and relevant authorities
Requirements:
- 5-10 years of compliance experience within fintech, payments providers, remittance businesses, or other BNM-regulated financial institutions
- Strong knowledge of Malaysia's AML/CFT regulatory framework, including the Malaysian Shariah Banking Act (MSBA), Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA), and relevant BNM AML/CFT/CPF and targeted financial sanctions requirements
- Experience managing regulatory engagements, ideally with responsibility for or significant involvement in licensing projects
- Knowledge of cross-border payments and e-money issuance (strong plus)
- Experience with compliance technology tools (transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, KYC platforms, etc.)
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with ability to build processes from the ground up
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience, seniority, and independence necessary to perform Compliance Officer responsibilities effectively
- ACAMS, ICA, or equivalent professional qualification (preferred)
- Must be currently based in Kuala Lumpur or willing to relocate
