Socket.dev is seeking a Commercial Counsel to lead commercial contracting efforts and accelerate deal velocity. You will join a lean legal team managing approximately 60 contracts monthly, serving as the primary legal partner for the sales organization. In this role, you will partner closely with sales throughout the deal cycle, shaping contract terms proactively before customer redlines arrive. You'll own a meaningful portfolio of Socket's commercial agreements, driving faster turnaround times and reducing deals stalled or escalated to senior leadership. You'll negotiate directly with customers and their counsel in a collaborative, relationship-building manner while maintaining Socket's approved risk positions. For genuine exceptions, you'll escalate to the CEO with clear recommendations. You'll leverage Socket's existing contracting systems, AI tools, and automation to handle higher volume and reduce reliance on external contractors. The role emphasizes creative problem-solving to unblock stuck negotiations and finding deal structures that work for both parties. Socket helps development and security teams ship faster by automating security busywork around open source code management. REQUIREMENTS: - Licensed attorney with substantial experience negotiating high-volume commercial agreements (MSAs, order forms, DPAs, NDAs) at a SaaS or technology company - Proven track record of partnering with sales teams and improving contract velocity - Sound, commercially grounded risk judgment across liability, indemnities, IP, data protection, and payment terms - Ability to operate with high agency and minimal direction PREFERRED: - Experience at a security, developer tools, or infrastructure company - Hands-on use of AI and automation tools to increase legal productivity - Experience negotiating directly with enterprise customers and their counsel
