MX is a fintech company building technology that helps banks, credit unions, and fintechs deliver smarter financial experiences. The company is in a phase of renewed momentum and scale, with a culture that values curiosity, accountability, and impact.
You will join the new Enterprise Engineering team as a Cloud & Infrastructure Engineer, owning the foundation of the "paved road" for how MX builds internal tools and applications. You'll be responsible for the Enterprise GCP Environment, network and connectivity, identity and security controls, and reliability practices that enable safe, governed development across the organization.
**Key Responsibilities:**
**GCP Platform & Runtime:** Build and operate the Enterprise GCP Environment with automated CI/CD to production under Cloud Infrastructure's oversight. Own and maintain the curated GCP role catalog and org policy guardrails. Manage the platform as infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, including self-serve disposable dev environments. Support migration of existing tools into the Enterprise GCP Environment.
**Network & Connectivity:** Design and operate the platform's network architecture including VPCs, network zones, private service connectivity, load balancing, DNS automation, and data-exfiltration controls. Partner with IT Operations to maintain office networks, firewalls, VPN/zero-trust access, and secure connectivity between office and cloud environments. Maintain inter-app integrations between enterprise systems and the cloud environment. Keep network diagrams, standards, and change records current.
**Identity & Security Controls:** Implement and maintain identity and auth patterns (Okta/IAP) for runtime and dev environments, including service account hygiene and least-privilege access. Integrate code and agent scanning (e.g., Snyk) into the CI/CD pipeline. Partner with Security and Compliance on SOC 2 and PCI audit evidence.
**Reliability, Operations & Cost:** Establish reliability practices including monitoring, alerting, runbooks, incident response, and post-incident reviews. Coordinate escalation and after-hours coverage with Cloud Infrastructure. Implement app support tiers and ownership metadata. Own cost attribution, tagging, and budget alerts for the platform.
**Cross-Functional Partnership:** Work closely with Cloud Infrastructure, IT Operations, Information Security, and builders across the business. Maintain architecture diagrams, runbooks, and documentation.
**Requirements:**
**Education:** Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
**Experience:** 6-8+ years in cloud, network, or infrastructure engineering, with production experience on GCP (or AWS/Azure with strong GCP aptitude and willingness to ramp quickly).
**Technical Proficiency:**
- Deep hands-on experience with GCP (IAM, VPC networking, org policy, Cloud Run, GKE, or equivalent compute), or equivalent hyperscaler with fast GCP ramp-up
- Strong network engineering fundamentals: TCP/IP, routing, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPN or zero-trust network access, hybrid cloud connectivity
- Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform strongly preferred) and CI/CD for infrastructure (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar)
- Identity and auth implementation (Okta, IAP, SSO/SAML/OAuth/OIDC, workload identity)
- Reliability practices: monitoring, alerting, incident response, runbooks
- Scripting and automation (Python, Bash, or Go)
- Security fundamentals: least-privilege access, data-exfiltration controls, code and dependency scanning; familiarity with SOC 2 Type II and PCI controls
**Soft Skills:** Strong communication and collaboration; comfortable partnering with Cloud Infrastructure, Information Security, IT Operations, and builders; ability to document systems clearly for mixed-technical audiences.
**Advanced (Nice-to-Have):** Cloud or network certifications (Google Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Cloud Network Engineer); experience running platforms for AI workloads (Vertex AI, inference endpoints, AI gateways). Be prepared to discuss a network or platform design you built and trade-offs made, and a production incident you resolved.
