OpenAI's Client Platform Engineering team is seeking a Senior Client Platform Engineer to build and operate platforms that secure, manage, and optimize employee devices at scale. This role focuses on designing and deploying agentic solutions that automate fleet operations, reduce employee friction, and improve security posture across Linux, macOS, and Windows environments.
You will own the full lifecycle of secure endpoint management systems—from design and development through testing, deployment, and production operations. Key responsibilities include:
• Design, develop, and operate secure Linux endpoint management systems across environments with different compliance requirements (SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, NIST).
• Build agentic workflows leveraging OpenAI products and models that use fleet telemetry to anticipate issues, guide remediation, and eliminate friction from everyday work.
• Simplify device onboarding and software delivery using OpenAI products to make new hires productive from day one.
• Develop secure, reliable workflows with scoped access, human review for sensitive changes, traceable actions, and tested recovery procedures.
• Manage fleet configuration as code using GitOps, version control, peer review, and automated validation.
• Build and operate CI/CD pipelines for fleet infrastructure across Azure, AWS, and GCP with staged deployments and tested rollback.
• Use fleet telemetry to proactively improve performance, detect configuration drift, and verify deployment outcomes.
• Participate in engineering on-call, own incident resolution, and turn operational lessons into lasting improvements.
• Partner with IT, Security, Research, and specialized engineering teams to deliver consistent provisioning and support.
You will develop first-party software and integrate commercial and open-source tools for software packaging, deployment, and application management. This is a high-impact role where your work directly improves security, reliability, and employee experience across the organization.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or another modern programming language.
• Deep experience securing and managing Linux fleets at scale, including configuration management, MDM, device enrollment, policy enforcement, and cloud identity integration.
• Demonstrated success with open-source endpoint tools for configuration, device and application management, and telemetry.
• Experience delivering secure, reliable, scalable systems across different compliance requirements.
• Deep experience managing infrastructure at scale with Infrastructure as Code and GitOps, using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Chef.
• Experience integrating and operating fleet infrastructure with CI/CD and DevOps workflows.
• Track record of deploying and operating fleet infrastructure in public cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Initiative, analytical judgment, and ability to turn problems into practical improvements.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Deep experience with open-source fleet management tools and frameworks.
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, and NIST.
• Strong soft skills, including stakeholder communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Relevant professional certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CISM, CCSP.
• Security thought leadership with contributions to client platform engineering open-source projects or technical communities.
