Fluidstack is building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI by acquiring power, designing and operating data centers at gigawatt scale. The company is singularly focused on deploying 10-100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else, rethinking every layer of the stack from hardware to software.
As Chief Engineer, Power Generation, you will own the end-to-end production system for how Fluidstack builds and deploys generation capacity across concurrent gigawatt-scale sites. This role spans module fabrication through field installation and energization, establishing a single standard set of work instructions repeated across all sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the production system and establishing takt time and line balance for module and skid manufacturing, using standard work, andon escalation, and first-pass yield targets
- Driving install rate and reducing rework in the field through kaizen events and value stream mapping conducted with crews on-site
- Taking quality to the source at suppliers through process audits, error-proofing, and joint improvement work, folding every fix into standard design through change control
- Teaching the Toyota Production System methodology across the organization, coaching engineers, site leads, and contractors through A3 problem solving
- Managing critical path items including balancing authority certification, firm load rights, permits, and interconnection approvals
- Solving key problems: installing solar, storage, and gas generation at unprecedented rates; securing supply at scale by qualifying new suppliers and reshoring capacity; ensuring hybrid plants deliver firm generation suitable for AI workloads; and clearing regulatory approvals years ahead of builds
The company operates with full autonomy, insane urgency, first-principles reasoning, and a focus on building something that matters. You will work in a high-intensity environment pushing the frontier of AI infrastructure.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated experience running a production system built on Toyota Production System (TPS) or direct derivative, learned by doing under someone already experienced
- Proven track record setting takt time on a real line, balancing against actual cycle times, and holding it through demand ramps while maintaining standard work
- Documented examples of cutting cycle time or defect rate with specific before/after numbers and the changes made
- Experience stopping a line or site when standards were not met, and making that call stick with senior stakeholders
- Supplier development experience: changed how a supplier builds a part and saw incoming quality improve as a result
- Ability to teach TPS methodology to resistant learners and leave behind engineers who independently run A3s and kaizen events
- Clear writing that communicates appropriately to fabrication supervisors, site superintendents, and executives
- Bonus qualifications: experience in Toyota group companies or TPS-derived systems (Toyota, Danaher DBS, Boeing, Tesla); modular and offsite construction (volumetric modules, skidded MEP, prefabricated power blocks); Lean Six Sigma black belt; manufacturing quality systems (MES, SPC, APQP, PPAP); Professional Engineer license
