Salary: USD 195,000 - 250,000 / annual
Voyager Technologies is a defense, national security, and space technology company developing mission-critical solutions for government and commercial customers. This Chief Engineer role leads the end-to-end technical and programmatic success of solid rocket propulsion system (SRM) programs.
You will manage large multidisciplinary engineering teams, oversee complex systems engineering processes, and align technical execution with budgetary and schedule constraints. Reporting to the Director of Engineering within the Strategic Systems department, you are the primary technical leader and spokesperson for assigned programs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Direct the complete technical lifecycle of SRM programs by leading cross-functional teams through rigorous design reviews and qualification milestones, ensuring producibility, compliance with technical data requirements, and balance against cost and schedule.
- Lead the engineering team to meet all program milestones by maintaining focus on the critical path, proactively managing resource conflicts, and driving schedule performance through aggressive task management and alternative execution strategies.
- Establish and maintain lean technical scope baselines by eliminating contingency budgeting, monitoring cost performance indices (CPI) to mitigate variances, and rigorously challenging budget change requests to preserve management reserves.
- Serve as the primary technical spokesperson for programs, managing internal and external stakeholder relationships, presenting programmatic material, cultivating new business, and ensuring customer requests remain within authorized scope while providing data-driven technical alternatives.
- Travel up to 25% to site locations and external test facilities as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 15 years of engineering experience with 5+ years of technical leadership specifically in solid rocket motors (SRMs).
- Demonstrated ability to lead large multidisciplinary teams (preferably 10+ people) through complex program execution.
- Proven experience managing program budgets, schedules, and technical scope baselines in defense or aerospace environments.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
- Ability to lift, move, or carry items or equipment up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least four years of experience leading controllable solid rocket propulsion system projects with multidisciplinary teams of 10+ people.
- Current DoD Secret Security clearance.
