SWIR Vision Systems (part of onsemi, Nasdaq: ON) is seeking a Characterization Engineer to support the development and validation of silicon carbide (SiC) power devices through comprehensive electrical testing and analysis.
In this role, you will perform DC/static and dynamic electrical characterization of SiC MOSFETs and power devices, including I-V curves, on-state resistance (RDS(on)), threshold voltage (VTH), leakage current, breakdown, double-pulse testing (DPT), and switching characterization (SCWT). You will execute application-relevant testing to evaluate switching performance, device robustness, and key electrical parameters critical for automotive and industrial applications.
Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining test methods, measurement setups, and characterization procedures for current and future SiC technologies. You will use Python for measurement automation, data processing, visualization, and parameter extraction. Your analysis will be grounded in semiconductor device physics, correlating electrical behavior with device design and application performance. You will ensure measurement accuracy, repeatability, data quality, and proper documentation of all characterization results.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including technology development, modeling, reliability, applications, and product engineering to support development milestones and technical investigations. This role contributes to onsemi's mission of driving disruptive innovations in vehicle electrification, advanced safety, alternative energy, and factory automation—megatrends critical to achieving a net-zero economy.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Semiconductor Physics, Applied Physics, or related technical field
- Knowledge of high-voltage standards and background testing above 1500 V DC
- Good understanding of semiconductor device physics, preferably including power semiconductor devices and SiC MOSFETs
- Basic knowledge or hands-on experience with electrical device characterization, DC measurements, and/or power electronics testing
- Familiarity with dynamic/application-level testing such as DPT, SCWT, or switching characterization (advantageous)
- Experience with Python for data analysis, visualization, measurement automation, or scripting
- Ability to analyze measurement data, identify trends and anomalies, and draw clear technical conclusions
- Hands-on, structured, and analytical working approach with strong focus on measurement quality and reproducibility
- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional and international engineering teams
