Bastion provides regulated infrastructure for holding, moving, and issuing stablecoins. The platform combines custodial wallets, global payment orchestration, and stablecoin issuance, serving customers who need compliance and risk controls built directly into their operations.
As Business Development Director, you will identify and develop new market segments, use cases, and strategic programs that fall outside standard sales motions. While the sales team focuses on defined segments, you will discover emerging opportunities, shape them commercially, and either close them directly or hand off qualified, well-structured deals to sales.
You will work closely with the CEO on strategic opportunities, collaborate with enterprise sales and partnerships teams on handoffs, and partner with product and commercial strategy on segment prioritization. The role requires identifying new buyer categories—from global brands exploring branded stablecoins to platforms rethinking cross-border payouts and treasury operations—and building relationships with decision-makers before they formally enter the market.
In your first 30 days, you will immerse yourself in customer and prospect calls, develop 2-3 segment theses with target account lists, activate your network to book initial conversations, and establish clear handoff protocols with sales and partnerships. By 90 days, you will own a measurable pipeline of originated opportunities, run fast experiments in new segments, represent Bastion at relevant events, and have at least one strategic opportunity in late-stage negotiation. By 180 days, you will convert your strongest segment into a repeatable sales motion, document the segment playbook (targeting logic, messaging, use cases, references), influence product and commercial strategy based on market learning, and expand into adjacent geographies or use cases with strong demand signals.
Key challenges include prospecting buyers who haven't yet begun formal searches, maintaining clean handoffs between BD, sales, and partnerships, qualifying rigorously to avoid low-fit deals, structuring custom terms for large programs, and adapting to a rapidly shifting regulatory and competitive landscape.
This is a startup role with fast pace and evolving priorities. Success requires the ability to contribute meaningfully in week one and reach full productivity by month three.
