Helion is a fusion power company on a mission to build the world's first commercial fusion power plant. Founded in 2013 and headquartered in Everett, WA, the company has raised $1.5 billion from leading investors including Sam Altman, SoftBank, and Thrive Capital. Helion's prototype, Polaris, has achieved record-breaking plasma temperatures of 150 million degrees Celsius, and the company is advancing toward Orion, its first commercial fusion generator.
As a Build Engineer, you will own the manufacturing, assembly, and deployment of subsystems for integrated development testbeds and fusion generators. This is a hands-on role that bridges design engineering and production, ensuring manufacturability is embedded at every stage of the design process.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning build and assembly definition and execution for generator subsystems, which may encompass large structures, moving mechanical assemblies, power transmission, vacuum systems, electromagnets, high-voltage capacitor systems, low-voltage harnessing, and radiation shielding
- Authoring detailed work instructions for technician teams to support both nominal builds and nonconformance resolution
- Designing and manufacturing tooling to enable efficient assembly and installation of generator subsystems
- Collaborating with production, integration, and engineering teams to develop prototypes and manufacturing demonstrators
- Driving excellence in configuration management, delivered hardware quality, and execution pace
- Becoming an expert in the full lifecycle of parts—from procurement through final assembly—to continuously improve low-volume (under 1,000 piece) build processes
- Communicating technical information effectively across functional and organizational boundaries
This is an onsite role in Everett, WA. You will work with a team that values urgency, rigor, ownership, and a commitment to delivering hard truths—essential to achieving what no one has done before.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
- 2+ years of professional experience in manufacturing, assembly, or integration of multidisciplinary hardware
- Hands-on experience across multiple engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, fluids)
- Experience working within CAD software to create models and drawings (e.g., NX, Solidworks)
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a build project
- Effective technical communication across functional and organizational levels
