ether.fi is a crypto-native DeFi platform offering a non-custodial suite of products (Stake, Liquid, Cash) that bridge crypto utility with real-world convenience. The Nonce team builds and operates ether.fi's DeFi yield vaults—products that take user deposits and deploy them across DeFi protocols, lending markets, LSTs, LRTs, and stablecoin strategies.
You will be a smart contract and backend engineer responsible for building and operating the next generation of Nonce's vault product, one of the largest DeFi yield vault products in the industry. This is a build-and-operate role: you'll ship Solidity smart contracts and backend services, and you'll also participate in the day-to-day operations of running live vaults—discussing yield opportunities, reviewing transactions, signing multisig operations, and assessing protocol safety before capital allocation.
Key responsibilities include:
**Vaults:** Design, write, deploy, and configure yield vault smart contracts. Build vault tooling for trading, rebalancing, policy updates, and admin configuration. Extend vault architecture as new strategies and chains emerge. Review teammates' code and receive reviews. Prove contract correctness through unit tests, fuzz testing, invariants, and formal verification. Work with external auditors and write auditable contracts.
**Backend Services:** Build and maintain critical 24/7 systems including the solver powering redemption flows with liquidity buffers, NAV reporting, and unwind logic. Build and maintain the NAV service that prices every vault position and guarantees share price accuracy. Automate on-chain operations for allocation, harvesting, and rebalancing without manual intervention.
**Risk & Protocol Operations:** Own the new-protocol review pipeline—read docs and contracts, assess risk, decide on allocation terms. Review and sign vault rebalancing transactions as a multisig signer. Build monitoring and automation to catch broken oracles, depegs, stuck withdrawals, or bad allocations before users do. Participate as a security guardian across ether.fi's web3 stack.
The team is small with high autonomy. Every vault, rebalance, and protocol integration goes through this team. You'll work onsite 4 days per week at one of three global offices: NYC, Denver, or the Cayman Islands.
**Requirements:**
- 4+ years of industry engineering experience
- Strong production Solidity: clean, secure, designed around edge cases and failure modes
- Equally strong backend skills: services, automation, tooling that runs against real money
- Deep DeFi knowledge: read protocol docs and contracts, understand yield sources, identify failure modes
- Shipped a real yield vault (ERC-4626, BoringVault-style, or custom architecture) and operated it post-launch
- Thrive in fast-moving environments where the best idea wins
**Bonus:**
- Experience at a vault platform, asset curator, or yield product with real TVL
- Hands-on with lending markets, LSTs, LRTs, basis/funding trades, stablecoin yield
- Audit or security review background
- Personal hacking: own contracts, protocol audits, MEV bots, extensive DeFi protocol experience
