Embat is a fast-growing European fintech startup founded in 2021, backed by leading international investors including Creandum (€15M Series C in Feb 2024). The company is building a SaaS platform that revolutionizes how medium and large enterprises manage finances and cash flow in real time, delivering 100x+ efficiency gains over Excel-based workflows.
As a Backend Engineer, you will join an 80+ person team working in an agile, flat environment with minimal bureaucracy. You'll collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and designers to build and scale financial features. The tech stack includes Node.js and TypeScript on the backend, React on the frontend, Google Cloud for infrastructure, and GitLab CI/CD for deployment.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure APIs and web applications
- Work with the team to ideate and build impressive financial features
- Test new features and enhancements for responsiveness and efficiency; master troubleshooting, debugging, and upgrades
- Document code to keep the team aligned
- Implement security and data protection measures to safeguard user data
- Help build and improve CI/CD, monitoring, and testing practices
- Advocate for quality culture and ensure high standards before production
- Learn from teammates and develop skills across different areas

Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience as a Backend or FullStack engineer using JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js
- Experience scaling distributed systems with large data volumes
- Strong knowledge of software architecture design patterns and coding best practices
- Proficiency in testing environments and quality assurance practices
- Highly organized with attention to detail; ability to prioritize and adjust to changing needs
- Strong team player with humility and versatility
- Ambitious, curious, and passionate about learning
- Background in Computer Science or related field
- Working proficiency in English; fluent in Spanish
- Location: preferably Madrid or elsewhere in Spain
Nice-to-haves:
- Familiarity with the full tech stack (React, Redux, Storybook, Express, Cypress, Jest, MongoDB, Python, GCP, GitLab CI/CD)
- Experience with CI/CD processes and DevOps practices
- Knowledge of test coverage tracking and quality monitoring tools
- Previous experience in fintech or financial services
- International experience and additional languages
- Open-source project contributions
