Swarm Aero is building the world's largest swarming UAV fleet and Command & Control software to mobilize thousands of heterogeneous autonomous aircraft. The company is Series A-funded with a team of experienced aerospace engineers from Scaled Composites, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin, and Boom Supersonic. As an Avionics Engineer, you will own the electrical and electronic systems that make aircraft fly: sensors, flight computers, radios, power distribution, and harnesses. You'll work closely with the embedded software team but focus primarily on hardware integration, testing, and validation. Key responsibilities include: - Design, integrate, and test avionics subsystems (flight computers, GPS/INS, air data, datalinks, radios, payload interfaces) - Develop wiring harness designs, connector pinouts, and power distribution architecture - Build and operate bench test setups and hardware-in-the-loop rigs with the embedded software team - Support ground testing, integration testing, and flight test campaigns from preflight through post-flight analysis - Troubleshoot hardware issues across electrical, mechanical, and software boundaries - Package avionics into airframes with attention to weight, thermal, vibration, and maintainability - Define and execute qualification testing for environmental, power quality, and EMI/EMC requirements - Document systems for future builds, testing, and maintenance This role is ideal for someone early in their career who bridges mechanical and electrical engineering—whether an ME with wiring experience or an EE with airframe exposure. If you've built and flown something, you'll fit well here. REQUIREMENTS: - BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering - 1 to 4 years of hands-on experience with aircraft, UAVs, or comparable hardware systems (including significant student project or competition work) - Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical design: reading schematics, harness design, 3D CAD - Lab proficiency with oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, soldering/crimping tools - Experience with common avionics and embedded interfaces (CAN, RS-232/422/485, Ethernet, SPI, I2C) - Builder's mindset: prototype quickly, test honestly, iterate - Ability to work on-site in Oxnard and support off-site testing - U.S. citizenship required (ITAR compliance) NICE TO HAVE: - Flight test program experience (company, lab, or university team: AIAA DBF, SUAS, rocketry, Formula SAE electronics) - Familiarity with MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461, or DO-160 - Harness or PCB design tools (Altium, Capital, E3.series, SolidWorks Electrical) - Python or MATLAB for test automation and data analysis - PX4, ArduPilot, or other autopilot integration experience - Active security clearance or eligibility to obtain one
