Destinus is developing advanced unmanned aerial vehicles for demanding defense and aerospace applications. As an Avionics Engineer, you will define, integrate, and verify the electronic systems of guided aerospace vehicles, taking ownership of avionics subsystems from requirements through flight hardware. You will contribute to the overall avionics architecture and work cross-functionally with GNC, embedded software, systems, propulsion, mechanical, and test teams to deliver mission-critical technology. Key responsibilities include: • Architecture: Contribute to hardware and software architecture of vehicle avionics, making trade-offs between performance, mass, volume, power, cost, reliability, and schedule. • Requirements: Write and maintain avionics requirements derived from vehicle and mission needs, trace them through design, and support verification. • Component Selection: Evaluate and select electronic components and avionics units based on performance, environmental ratings, availability, lifecycle, and supply chain risk. • Power Systems: Define avionics power needs, design power distribution, conversion, protection, and management, and maintain power budgets. • Subsystem Integration: Integrate avionics with flight computers, seekers, IMUs, actuators, and sensors; define and control electrical and data interfaces. • Telemetry & Communication: Define telemetry and communication systems, select hardware, data links, and protocols for vehicle, ground, and test use. • Interconnect & Harness: Design vehicle interconnect and harness, select connectors and wires, ensure EMC, mechanical, and environmental compliance. • Verification & Testing: Plan and execute bench, integration, HIL, and environmental tests; identify and correct hardware faults. • Documentation & Reviews: Write ICDs, design documents, and test procedures; present and contribute to design reviews. • Flight Test Support: Support vehicle integration, flight-test preparation, and field operations as needed. Requirements: • 2+ years of professional experience in avionics, electronics, or embedded hardware development, preferably in aerospace, defense, automotive, or similar industries. • Hands-on experience defining or contributing to avionics architectures for aircraft, UAVs, missiles, launch vehicles, or similar systems. • Experience writing, decomposing, and tracing requirements through design and verification. • Strong knowledge of analog and digital electronics; ability to read and review schematics and PCB designs (Altium experience a plus). • Experience selecting components for harsh environments, including derating, temperature, vibration, and shock considerations. • Experience with DC/DC conversion, batteries, power distribution, protection circuits, and power budgets. • Practical experience with CAN-FD, Ethernet, RS-422/RS-485, SPI, I2C, and UART protocols (RF data links experience a plus). • Experience with harness design and connector selection (e.g., MIL-DTL-38999 or Micro-D); knowledge of shielding, grounding, and EMC design. • Comfortable with oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, multimeters, and protocol analyzers (Python for test automation a plus). • Structured, detail-oriented mindset; comfortable in fast-moving, cross-disciplinary engineering environments. • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electronics, or equivalent.
