You will join the laboratory operations team as an Automation Service Engineer supporting the oncology division. This role focuses on troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment used in NGS workflows, with particular emphasis on automated instrumentation and liquid handlers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide service support and troubleshooting for automated processes and instrumentation
- Perform and coordinate maintenance on laboratory equipment
- Conduct root cause analysis and problem-solving on lab instruments
- Execute Installation, Operational, and Process Qualifications on new equipment
- Collaborate with Quality Control to ensure regulatory-compliant documentation
- Coordinate with vendors on equipment issues
- Maintain equipment parts inventory and records
- Prepare documentation for equipment operation and maintenance
- Propose and design process improvement plans
- Represent equipment and automation teams in cross-functional meetings
- Undertake special projects as assigned
This is an onsite position in Menlo Park with shift flexibility: Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday PM shift.
Requirements:
- BS degree in a scientific discipline
- 3+ years of experience operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, preferably high-throughput molecular biology equipment, especially liquid handlers
- Strong customer-focused service experience
- Ability to engage in constructive dialogue and maintain transparency
- Proficiency in problem-solving with limited direction and confident decision-making
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Solid understanding of statistical analyses relevant to automated lab processes
- Strong multi-tasking ability with focus on prioritization
- Experience troubleshooting complex scripts (added advantage)
- Experience in CLIA or similar regulated environment (preferred)
- Ability to work effectively in teams and build strong relationships
- Self-motivated with high initiative
- Drive for continual improvement
Nice-to-haves:
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques, including next-generation sequencing
- Experience with data science/data engineering in automated laboratory environments
- Experience developing training programs and performing knowledge transfer
