Solv is an American healthtech company founded in 2016, headquartered in San Francisco, that operates a digital platform for booking and managing healthcare appointments used by millions of patients and providers across the United States. The Italian office is based in Verona with a team of approximately ten people in engineering and product operations, working closely with the international team and US headquarters. The Verona team has direct responsibility and concrete ownership over products.
You will join the integrations team as an Associate Software Engineer. The core mission is to build and maintain integrations between Solv's platform and external systems—specifically EMR/EHR (Electronic Medical Record/Electronic Health Record) systems used by US clinics and healthcare providers. These systems are numerous, each different from the others, many built twenty years ago, and poorly documented. Making them communicate with Solv's platform is the work. It is not always elegant, but it is where the product meets reality: if the integration fails, the patient cannot book an appointment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Working on integrations between Solv's platform and customers' EMR/EHR systems
- Contributing to the evolution of existing integrations, improving reliability, scalability, and maintainability, including work on legacy systems
- Participating in the development of new integrations, following best practices in design, development, and testing
- Mapping data between systems that model the same things in different ways—this is where most of the complexity hides
- Managing errors, retries, and edge cases; a significant part of the work is making things function when the external system behaves unexpectedly
- Debugging across system boundaries: determining whether the problem is ours, the partner's, or the incoming data
- Writing tests and documentation that the American team can work with the next morning
- Using AI-based tools to support understanding of complex systems, debugging, and testing
No prior work experience is required, nor any knowledge of the US healthcare system or interoperability standards. This is a domain learned on the job with team support.
The role is based in Verona with hybrid flexibility. Some meetings will fall in late afternoon Italian time due to the US East Coast timezone. An annual week-long visit to the San Francisco headquarters is included.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (three-year or five-year) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent, completed or in final year
- Foundational Python skills (or equivalent language), acquired through university or personal projects
- Knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL) and ability to write SQL queries
- Understanding of REST APIs and common data exchange formats (JSON, XML, CSV)
- Excellent English, written and spoken, for daily collaboration with American colleagues: meetings, messages, documentation
- Diagnostic patience—much of this work involves understanding why a system you did not write behaves in a way nobody documented
Nice to have (not required):
- Backend frameworks such as FastAPI or Django
- Knowledge, even theoretical, of healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR)
- Familiarity with message queues and asynchronous jobs
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, and collaborative workflows
