Infleqtion is commercializing atom-based quantum products for sensing and computing applications. Within the Quantum Computing Product Group's Hardware Engineering Team, you will work as an Associate Laser Systems Engineer focused on neutral-atom quantum computing hardware. You will carry out well-defined laser assembly, characterization, and control tasks while building practical judgment through laboratory work and design reviews. The role includes dedicated time for technical learning and hands-on training, supported by regular guidance from experienced engineers. Key responsibilities: - Assemble and align laser paths using reviewed layouts and laser-safety procedures - Calculate expected power levels and frequency shifts for assigned setups and compare predictions with measurements - Measure laser power, polarization, beam profiles, and short-term stability against acceptance criteria - Set up detectors, modulation stages, and feedback controls using reviewed procedures; record response and operating settings - Collaborate with engineers to isolate alignment, signal, or lock problems, test fixes, and flag issues beyond your scope - Document setup changes, measurements, and test conditions to enable reproducibility; submit procedure improvements for review - Plan assigned tasks, report progress and blockers, and incorporate feedback from design and test reviews Up to 10% travel may be required. Work is performed in office and laboratory environments around technical equipment including computers and lasers. You must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift and carry up to 40 pounds without assistance, and efficiently use automated office equipment and engage in communications via phone, computer, or in-person. Note: This position may require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws (EAR and ITAR). Any offer may be conditioned on authorization to receive controlled software or technology without sponsorship for an export license. REQUIREMENTS: Must have: - Bachelor's degree in optical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, or related field (prior industry experience not required) - Understanding of laser and optical fundamentals, with ability to explain beam propagation, polarization, interference, and frequency - Hands-on practice assembling optical or electro-optical setups and taking measurements while following laboratory safety procedures - Practice interpreting detector signals and explaining how gain, noise, and negative feedback affect measurement or control loops - Experience analyzing measurements, comparing them with predictions, and explaining differences using calculations, spreadsheets, or scripts - Experience keeping accurate setup and measurement records, checking work for errors, and flagging unexpected results - Ability to explain technical work clearly, raise questions or problems early, and incorporate feedback Highly valued: - Project experience with laser characterization, optical modulation, or feedback control - Experience using Python or comparable tools to collect and analyze laboratory data - Experience with atomic spectroscopy, optical resonators, or low-noise photodetection Coursework, laboratory classes, research, internships, and projects can demonstrate these skills. Preferred qualifications are helpful but not required.
