The company has 150+ employees, a network of 600 agents, and has grown nearly 2x year-over-year, backed by top-tier investors including Firstmark, Accomplice, and Revolution Growth.
As Associate General Counsel, you will be the third member of the Legal & Regulatory team, reporting to the General Counsel. You will operate as a broad-based attorney across multiple legal practice areas, with particular focus on commercial and regulatory issues.
Key responsibilities include:

- Support the mortgage company in building compliant product and service offerings, policies, and controls across federal and state frameworks, and lead expansion into new states
- Partner with title companies to innovate and streamline service delivery while maintaining state law compliance
- Collaborate with Product & Engineering teams to balance innovation and growth with legal and regulatory risk
- Engage with state regulators on expansion, operational compliance, and regulatory inquiries
- Manage outside law firms across practice areas, balancing cost and effectiveness
- Contribute to development of Data Privacy and Information Security policies and procedures
- Participate in equity and debt financings involving venture capital and traditional capital providers
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, business-minded, and comfortable operating autonomously while navigating ambiguity and managing competing priorities. You will become a trusted advisor to senior leadership and cross-functional teams in a complex, fast-moving environment.
Requirements:
- At least 7 years of experience in commercial and/or regulatory legal practice, ideally combining law firm and in-house roles of increasing responsibility
- Solid experience with commercial contracts, including negotiating from a commercial perspective or reviewing from a regulatory perspective, and leading negotiations with large companies
- Ideally, experience with residential real estate, mortgage lending, title insurance, and settlement services laws and regulations, including RESPA, TILA, Fair Housing Act, ECOA, GLBA, and applicable state licensing and regulatory requirements
- Experience navigating evolving and overlapping regulations in a business context
- Ability to work independently with sound judgment and good escalation instincts
- Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across functional teams and experience levels
- Demonstrated drive for results, work ethic, and ability to prioritize risks and projects
- Meticulous attention to detail and excellent planning and organization skills
- Experience with Data Privacy regimes and policy implementation (preferred, not required)
- State bar admission in good standing
