Salary: USD 225,000 - 260,000 / annual

As Associate General Counsel, you will be the third member of the Legal & Regulatory team, reporting directly to the General Counsel. This is a full-time hybrid role based in New York City (in-office Tuesdays and Wednesdays), though remote work may be available for candidates in Austin, TX or Denver, CO. You will operate as a broad-based attorney across multiple legal practice areas with particular focus on commercial and regulatory issues. Key responsibilities include: • Lead commercial partnerships from inception to execution, driving deals independently • Support the mortgage company in building compliant product and service offerings, policies, and controls across federal and state frameworks, with a leadership role in multi-state expansion • Partner with title companies to innovate and streamline service delivery while maintaining state law compliance • Collaborate with Product & Engineering teams to balance innovation and growth with legal and regulatory risk • Engage with state regulators on expansion, operational compliance, and regulatory inquiries • Manage outside law firms across practice areas, optimizing cost and effectiveness • Contribute to development of Data Privacy and Information Security policies and procedures • Participate in equity and debt financings involving venture capital and traditional capital providers You will work across all business units, making meaningful contributions while navigating ambiguity and managing multiple competing priorities. As the company grows, there is significant opportunity to take on additional leadership responsibilities. REQUIREMENTS: • Minimum 7 years of experience in commercial and/or regulatory legal work, ideally combining law firm and in-house roles of increasing responsibility • Solid experience with commercial contracts—negotiating from commercial perspective or reviewing from regulatory perspective, including leading negotiations with large companies • Ideally, experience with residential real estate law and regulatory frameworks governing mortgage lending, title insurance, and settlement services, including RESPA, TILA, Fair Housing Act, ECOA, GLBA, and applicable state licensing requirements • Experience navigating application of evolving and overlapping regulations in business context • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and appropriate escalation • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across functional teams and experience levels • Demonstrated drive for results, work ethic, and ability to prioritize risks and projects • Meticulous attention to detail with excellent planning and organization skills • Experience with Data Privacy regimes and policy implementation (preferred, not required) • State bar admission in good standing
