OpenAI's Applied AI Engineering team is seeking a solutions-focused engineer to deliver secure, impactful Agentic AI implementations with international public-sector customers. You will serve as a hands-on technical partner, guiding government agencies, policymakers, and public institutions from strategy through production deployment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver clearly scoped technical implementations with sophisticated international public-sector customers, serving as their hands-on engineering partner to build applications on supported OpenAI model APIs, Codex, and approved technologies.
- Work with senior customer stakeholders to identify high-value GenAI applications and build comprehensive backlogs to support their AI roadmaps.
- Build hands-on prototypes and deliver strategic guidance to accelerate customer time to value, often collaborating with systems integrators and implementation partners.
- Forge and manage relationships with customers' and implementation partners' leadership to ensure successful deployment and scale of applications.
- Contribute to open-source developer and enterprise resources.
- Scale the Applied AI Engineering function by sharing knowledge, codifying best practices, and publishing notebooks to internal and external repositories.
- Validate, synthesize, and deliver high-signal feedback to Product, Engineering, and Research teams.
You will work in a hybrid model (3 days in office per week) based in London, with relocation assistance available. The role requires collaboration with regional Sales, Solutions Engineering, Global Affairs, Applied Research, Product, Legal, and Security teams. You must be willing to work during target region business hours and travel when required for customer delivery.
Requirements:
- Substantial technical consulting or hands-on delivery experience with international public-sector or similarly regulated customers, with ability to bridge regional technical teams and senior stakeholders.
- Proven success leading GenAI or traditional ML implementations for government agencies in close collaboration with systems integrators and implementation partners.
- Understanding of network and cloud architecture, including on-premise deployments, with practical judgment about privacy, data residency, model-inference location, sovereign/regulated environments, identity, procurement, and customer authorization.
- Effective and polished communicator able to translate business and technical topics to all audiences, including cross-cultural communication with public-sector executives, regional delivery partners, and legal/security stakeholders.
- Industry experience with programming languages such as Python, Go, or TypeScript.
- End-to-end problem ownership and willingness to acquire missing knowledge to complete tasks.
- Humble attitude, eagerness to help colleagues, and commitment to team success.
- Effective, high-throughput operator capable of driving multiple concurrent projects and ruthless prioritization.
- Ability to work with stakeholders in target region business hours and travel when required.
- Existing UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance strongly preferred, particularly for work with UK intelligence and defense customers.
