Zipline is the world's largest autonomous drone delivery service, operating on four continents and completing millions of deliveries of blood, vaccines, medical supplies, food, and retail products. The company has safely flown over 140 million commercial autonomous miles and is redefining global logistics and healthcare access.
Zipline is hiring Applied Aerodynamicists in South San Francisco to design, test, and optimize the aerodynamic performance of its autonomous delivery drones and systems. In this role, you will perform aerodynamic design using both experimental and simulation methods, including full-scale vehicle and component testing in wind tunnels and during flight testing. You will analyze experimental aerodynamic data through ad hoc analyses and develop automated, repeatable standard test methodologies. You will identify and implement improvements to aerodynamic measurement techniques, instrumentation, and data analysis methodologies.
Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining aerodynamic test assets, fixtures, and experimental facilities. You will generate, manipulate, and analyze aerodynamic databases for both airframe and propulsion systems. You will conduct multivariate aerodynamic trade studies to inform system-level design decisions and present results to stakeholders. The position allows for limited telecommuting, and some domestic travel is required.
Zipline operates at global scale and seeks practical problem solvers who thrive on real-world challenges, rapid growth, and building systems with direct, meaningful impact on people's lives.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 36 months (3 years) of experience in Applied Aerodynamicist role or related aerodynamics occupation
