Modal is building a new infrastructure layer for AI—a serverless cloud platform for AI, data, and compute-intensive applications. The company recently raised $355M in Series C funding at a $4.65B valuation and has crossed $300M+ ARR, serving customers like Lovable, Ramp, Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno. Modal's Data team is growing and seeking early key hires to build self-serve data tools and drive business strategy. The team's mission is to make it easy to track company goals, make evidence-backed decisions, and prioritize the right work through self-serve AI analytics tools (Hex, Snowflake) and by embedding with teams as a "data adviser" providing strategic analysis and consulting. In this role, you will: - Contribute to building Modal's modern analytics stack to support AI-driven self-serve analysis, key metrics tracking, and external customer reporting - Influence product analytics tracking for new products like LLM Inference Endpoints - Identify millions of dollars of cost savings and optimization across tools and financial operations - Write data pipelines powering business operations, such as cloud compute economics or sales compensation - Create foundational datasets used by people and AI tools to answer questions around product use cases, financial reporting, and marketing campaigns You should be comfortable working in a fast-growing, technically sophisticated environment where data directly influences product and business decisions. REQUIREMENTS: - SQL fluency and Python proficiency - Professional experience with at least 2 of the following: Snowflake, dbt, dlt, Modal, Hex, Posthog - Ability to extend work beyond data reporting into action and impact - High attention to detail - Excellent and precise communication skills - Strong personability and relationship-building skills NICE-TO-HAVE: - Experience with AI products, especially LLM inference and sandboxes - Experience in finops, fraud, sales ops, or risk (especially in AI context, e.g., token cost optimization) - Project management skills - Strong presence in the data community online and offline
